Posted by: fphaven on: July 19, 2009

[The blog has been neglected, and we all apologise for this however due to personal, technical porblems and busy schedules, all of us are somewhat placing FPHaven on the lowest priority for the moment.]

Still, for those who like reading slash, or even writing your own… There is now an award site all for you!

Yes, there is now a Slash Award Site. Just click here.

Naming That Character

Posted by: fphaven on: June 2, 2009

Naming characters can be easy or extremely difficult, especially if you have an image you want to come across – but not sound too generic or too confusing. So here are a few name generators, which will aid you in your quest to find some reasonable names. ;)

Names for characters – from cowboys to knights. Very good site for first names.

Fantasy Name Generator – From very serious fantasy names to insulting pet-names.

Behind the Name Generator – An archive of most the names all over the world, with filters down the bottom for a specific language.

Seventh Sanctum – Pretty much has a generator for everything.

Recommendations: Master/Slave

Posted by: fphaven on: May 30, 2009

If none of these seem to be your type of Master/Slave fiction then just click here to have the FictionPress search appear. (Filters have already been set so no work for you except from scrolling and clicking on which one you want to read).

[Zyren will be adding the rest of the Recommendations for the archives later. They did say that after the Fantasy Archive they were too much in a cream puff to do anything else :P Laziness really! Tut tut!]

Recommendations: Fantasy Archive

Posted by: fphaven on: May 30, 2009

The archives in this genre are really messed up. I mean by that is, there are repeats of some archives themes and so there are over a hundred of the things all with 4-5 stories in each. Pointless if you think about it, it’s not really an archive if it has four stories in it.

Really, though there isn’t one archive here that has over 200 stories. None out of the four pages. I’m flabbergasted! So I ended up having to go by how many subscribers there are which is rather unfair seeing as that means it’s the first four on the first page.

The AntiElf Society An archive which is against the cliches that have suddenly been reappearing.
Slash Fantasy Self explanatory is you know what slash is (for those who don’t. Slash is character in a homosexual relationship be it emotionally or just sexually).

House of Wolves
Encourages original plots and works.

FireBird Productions Is a personal archive in which the creator places stories they find intriguing up.

Recommendation: Manga Archive

Posted by: fphaven on: May 30, 2009

Manga has arount 35 archives… I will post links to four different archives exact very individual and I’m sure someone will find something to suit there needs. So why don’t we start listing:

First for those who enjoy/don’t mind reading about homosexual relationships there is the M/M & F/F archives. With currently 60 individual stories.

Dark, Twisted and Creepy But Well Worth the Read – well the title explains all. Amazingly this archive has over 1070 individual stories!

Seeing as some people on read “popular” or “good” stories, based on whether or not they have a high amount of reviews or not, take a look in this archive here: Over 100 Reviews: Manga Section.

Truly The Best: Manga Section is also avaliable to read from with just nearly 60 indivdual stories also.

So those are the archives I think you should check out and subcribe to.

Recommendations: Fable Archive

Posted by: fphaven on: May 30, 2009

Alright so I don’t ever… ever wander into the Fable genre, and I’m sure I’m not allow with such a statement. However I found myself a little interested with this archive:

Fantastic Fables

Yusho visits the Goddess of Wisdom by a-boy-named-leo
Yusho has a great problem that only Nini, goddess of wisdom, knows the answer to.

Traveler by SometimesNobody
Come closer. It is time for Old Ali to tell you a story. A tale told to me by my father, and by his father before him. It is a mysterious tale, to say the least. And I swear to you on the prophet’s uncle, every word is true. Let us begin…” *Oneshot*

Apparently they only accept completed works so – at least that doesn’t mean you have to wait around for an update. :)

Recommendations: Kids Archive

Posted by: fphaven on: May 30, 2009

It is not surprising that there is only two Archives for this category, seeing as the age to join is 13 years old. I doubt said children are wanting to read about Hansel and Grettle.

However here are the two links to each Archive. Each one only has around 2 stories in it… Not fabulous but at least the Kids section actually has an archive..

Adorable Tales and The Hounddogg archives.

Recommendations: Spiritual

Posted by: fphaven on: May 30, 2009

Oddly enough, even though the Spiritual genre is more… active than the Kids genre. It still only has two archives. One of which is for an actual author’s own stories.

The only archive which is collecting Spiritual stories in an archive is:

THE ISURAK
Read to be save, for the darkness will come to you if you don’t. Believe in the light and be saved. Let all who read these words be bless by the light. Light Bless!

Moving on to Fable next. (Although I kind of think I should have started with the major Genres first but I may as well continue to go the sequential way I started off with).

Recommendations: Essays

Posted by: fphaven on: May 30, 2009

I am pretty happy about these archives: so I decided to pick two of them. Both of them are very different and it just shows you what you can find in the Essay section of the site.

The first one is the archive to help writers in general with, well, writing. Writing Tip Essay Group has a fine collection of well-written essays.

Writing Summaries for Dummies by ta1nt3d1uv
Have you ever wondered how to write a summary? Well help is here!

A Guide to Action Scenes by Heatless Flame
This is a basic guide to writing an action scene, may it be actual pbattle, verbal, or anything such. This is NOT a full guide, and I suggest several others that can be found in my C2, Helpful Writing Guides.

The next Essay archive that I would recommend is:

Collected Essays on Modern Social and Political Topics. It’s a bit of a mouthful but nonetheless the essays here are more than interesting. From very serious essays to others of amusing topics:

Gay Is Okay! by Namir Swiftpaw
An essay I wrote about why I believe homosexuals should be allowed to get married. DO NOT FLAME ME FOR MY OPINIONS. If you disagree, feel free to do so in a civil manner.

Say Good Bye to Disney Channel? by Crystal Stone
why Disney Channel should be abolished.

Intelligent Design and Creationism by Biocube
My perspective on this controversy, and my unique compromise solution for it. Also, my logical and scientific problems with the theory of evolution. Some parts contain technical language.

Recommendations: Sci-Fi Archive

Posted by: fphaven on: May 30, 2009

Alright, so there is probably one genuinely active archive in the Sci-Fi genre. It had over a hundred stories all of which are meant to be acollection of good reads.

Stop by the Aliens, Time, Space: Sci-Fi Archive:

Murky Depths by andrhars
A city under the sea is thrown into chaos when the only means of escape is destroyed. Ryan Kane, a teenager and heir to a vast fortune is caught up in it all along with Willy, his surrogate uncle. A race against time starts as water surges in…

Great Minds Think Alike by Death Saidx
Zarranha is an cybernetic organism human hybrid. Er, in English, she’s part robot. She’s part of a group of three cyborgs that are part of MindCorps, a serious laboratory set on using kids to take over the world. No, seriously.

Just Need a Light by Will Heydt-Minor
A man undertakes an epic quest for the Holy City, and a light for his cigarette.
